Iowa GOP gets former US Senate candidate as money-raiser

The new co-chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa is a familiar face to most people in the party.

Mark Jacobs lost to Joni Ernst in the GOP US Senate primary in June. Now he'll have the job of raising money for a party that's running on fumes.

As of its last report, the Iowa GOP had just over $11,000 in the bank, after beginning the year with a six-figure balance.  GOP chair Jeff Kaufmann says he promised the party he'd raise $300,000 by September.  So Jacobs has a lot of work to do.

He's joined in the co-finance chair position by Cam Sutton, who's a retired insurance executive and on the board of the Heritage Foundation.

Jacobs says he's "100 percent committed" to helping raise money for Republican candidates "up and down the ticket".  Sutton previously served as co-chairman of the Polk County Republican Party's Robb Kelly Club, which has raised money to help the local party.
