Pat Murphy says he wants to do in Congress what he did as a state legislator: raise the minimum wage.

Murphy, a Dubuque Democrat, is seeking to replace Bruce Braley as Iowa's 1st District congressman.  He's spent nearly three decades as a state legislator and, when Democrats controlled the Iowa House, as its speaker.

At the Iowa State Fair Wednesday, Braley said "the first bill I'll sponsor" in Congress if elected would be an increase of the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.
