The number of deer infected with the virus known as EHD continues to rise.

Kevin Baskins of the Iowa DNR says the virus, carried by an insect, has claimed more than 600 deer in Iowa.

Baskins said, "There are probably a lot of deer out there that may be carrying it at any given time. Some of them succumb to the EHD, and others will kind of live with it and shake it off."

Baskins says there have been EHD cases reported in 48 counties. The majority this year are in Southeast Iowa.
