Iowa State University officials found an unusual item on campus Wednesday morning, according to spokesperson Anette Hacker.

Hacker said, "ISU Police recieved a report of a cylindrical item inside a sock near The Hub, which is a little cafe on central campus. Upon the advice of their arson investigator and the Ames Fire Department, ISU Police contacted the state fire marshall's office to come to the scene and examine the device."

Hacker says at 11:30 a.m. police determined the item was not an explosive device.

The investigation continues into exactly who placed the item on campus.
