They have a new website called plantgrowfly.com to help people learn about butterfly gardens and the importance of growing them. We'll also be talking about their new exhibits that include the camels at the entrance to the zoo and the new baby camel!
Blank Park Zoo along with its Plant.Grow.Fly. partners would like to invite you to the Butterfly Festival on July 26 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Blank Park Zoo. Celebrate some of the most eye-popping pollinators with crafts and activities for the entire family. Activities include a puppet show, presentation by Iowa’s Honey Queen, and a Bug Parade! ‘Bee’ sure to wear your favorite pollinator costume and march in the Bug Parade. Don’t have a bug costume? Just stop by the Plant.Grow.Fly table and make your own pollinator mask.
Local gardening and pollinator experts will be on hand with activities for all ages, to answer questions, and give advice. Participants include: Puppeteer Carol Taylor, Iowa’s Honey Queen, Gabrielle Hemesath, Blooming Prairie Nursery, The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, Iowa DNR, Madison County Conservation, Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, Practical Farmers of Iowa, Polk County Conservation, Reiman Gardens, US Army Corps of Engineers - Saylorville Lake, Warren County Conservation, City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation, DMACC, and The Science Center of Iowa.
