More than 2,000 Iowa firefighters and their families are expected to converge on Grinnell September 3-7 for the 2014 Iowa Firefighters Association Convention. The annual convention provides an opportunity for Iowa firefighters to relax and unwind, and its family-friendly events also welcome Iowans of all ages.
As part of the slate of convention activities, Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company will present a series of educational burn cell demonstrations at the Poweshiek County Fairgrounds in Grinnell on Wednesday, September 3, beginning at 6 p.m. The live burns will show how residential sprinkler systems can protect lives and property. Special investigators from Grinnell Mutual will emcee the event. Seating will be available and the public is invited to attend.
Spectators are also invited to watch firefighter waterball (water fights) in Central Park on Thursday, September 4, at 11 a.m. followed by the “old timers” and women’s waterball on Friday, September 5, at 11 a.m.
On Saturday, September 6, the public is invited to attend a craft show for a $1 donation from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 4-H Building at the Poweshiek County Fairgrounds. An evening parade, featuring fire trucks from all eras, begins at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Penrose St.
