Missouri Trooper sentenced in Clive man's drowning death

A Missouri Highway Patrol trooper will spend 10 days in jail for his role in the drowning death of a 20 year old man from Clive.

The Kansas City Star's reporting Trooper Anthony Piercy will also have to serve two years probation, and complete 50 hours of community service.

Craig Ellingson read an emotional victim impact statement in court today, about the death of his son, Brandon Ellingson.

“Anthony Piercy, it has been almost 3 1/2  years that I’ve waited to tell you face to face that you’re the reason why my son Brandon is dead,” Ellingson said, pausing and staring directly at Piercy. “You had no compassion for my son.”

The Kansas City Star reports Piercy apologized to the Ellingson family in court, "...for the loss I caused Ellingson family...Brandon should here with them today."

Investigators said Piercy did not secure a life jacket, when he took Brandon Ellingson into custody in 2014, at the Lake of the Ozarks.   Ellingson was handcuffed and drowned when he fell off the water patrol boat.
