Winterset, Iowa man killed in wrong-way crash on I-35

UPDATE:   The Iowa State Patrol has identified a man, killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate-35 early this (Wednesday) morning near the Cumming exit in Warren County.  

Authorities say 32-year-old Wayne Christopher Field of Winterset was diving a 2005 Toyota SUV north in the southbound lanes and collided with a Casey's General Store semi, driven by 54-year-old Richard Judkins of Ankeny.  Field was pronounced dead at the scene.



UPDATED 8:30 a.m. Sgt. Nate Ludwig with the Iowa State Patrol says a car traveling the wrong way on I-35 southbound near Cumming hit a Casey’s General Store semi truck head on early Wednesday morning. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. 

DES MOINES, Iowa - One person is confirmed dead after a car / semi crash on I-35 south of Des Moines Wednesday morning.

The southbound lanes of I-35 were still blocked at the Cumming exit at 6:30 a.m.

The Iowa State Patrol says a semi truck and another vehicle were involved in the crash just after 3:00 a.m.  and confirm that one person was killed.

A WHO TV Channel 13 reporter says a detour is in place using the off and on ramps at Exit 65, at Cumming.
