Iowa Powerball ticket worth $1-Million prize

Vicki Dixon claims Million dollar Iowa Powerball

A former Iowan who returned to the state last week for her husband's 55-year high school class reunion is going home to Texas the winner of a $1 million Powerball prize.

Wayne and Vicki Dixon of Allen, Texas were in Iowa last week to attend Wayne’s high school class reunion in Denison on Saturday.

The couple, who are both retired, said they arrived a day early and the hotel they were staying at didn’t have any vacancies, so they decided to stay at a hotel in Avoca  for the night.

As Wayne got gas at the Wings America Travel Centre in Avoca, Vicki went inside to buy a Powerball ticket.

On Saturday morning she says she checked the ticket.

She says asked her husband to double-check the numbers.

The couple plan use part of their winnings to pay bills and save the rest.

Vicki’s winning ticket matched the first five numbers, but missed the Powerball in the Aug. 5 drawing to win a $1 million prize.

The winning numbers in that night’s $323.5 million jackpot drawing were: 12-30-36-47-62 and Powerball 9. The Power Play® number was 4.

The Powerball jackpot has been climbing since June 10 and has grown to an estimated $430 million ($273.4 million cash option) for this Wednesday’s drawing.
