Drought covers two thirds of Iowa

The weekly U.S. Drought monitor shows a portion of southern Iowa has slipped into extreme drought for the first time this year.   Most of Clarke and Lucas Counties are in that category, as well as a portion of Wapello County.

Numerous other southern Iowa counties, as well as four counties in northwest Iowa are in severe drought.

Some form of drought covers roughly two-thirds of Iowa.
