(West Des Moines, IA) -- A fire Destroyed eight vehicles and damaged three more this (Tuesday) morning in West Des Moines. Crews were called to Roy's Towing and Recovery at 155 S. 13th Street around 1:20 a.m. after a report of a fire. A neighbor taking out the trash spotted the fire and called 9-1-1.

West Des Moines Fire Marshall Mike Whitsell tells WHO Radio News responding crews found several cars on fire in a lot. Investigators say after looking at surveillance footage of the lot, it appears the fire started in the trunk of an electrical hybrid vehicle where the battery is located.

Whitsell says some of the cars that were in the tow lot had only minor damage before the fire.

Damage estimate at this time is $245,000.
