Tonight, we went through a whole bunch of ways to tell that the organization you're working for is on borrowed time (be it a company, a non-profit, a government agency, or something else). Some signs:

  • What matters is the size of a manager's fiefdom, not the actual work they get done.
  • Nobody bothers to write down how or why they do anything -- thus ensuring that nobody ever really gets better at their jobs.
  • Every once in a while, management gets the harebrained idea that "technology will save us", without really knowing what they're trying to do with it.
