UPSWING IN ETHANOL PRICES

DES MOINES – Wholesale ethanol prices rose $.29 this week, closing at $2.57. 

 

Crude Oil Summary

The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $1.85 per barrel over last week, currently at $99.95.

 

Brent crude oil fell $1.87 this week, currently at $106.06.

 

One year ago WTI crude sold for $92.16 and Brent crude was at $106.91.

 

Motor Fuels

As of Tuesday, March 18th, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.56 across Iowa according to AAA.  This is the same price as last week and down $.07 from one year ago.  The national average on Tuesday was $3.53, up $.04 from last week’s price. 

 

Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa dropped a penny on the Tuesday report with a statewide average of $3.84.   One year ago diesel prices averaged $3.94 in Iowa.   The current Iowa diesel average is $.16 per gallon lower than the national average of $4.00.

 

Wholesale ethanol prices rose $.29 this week, closing at $2.57. The price of Mid-Grade Blend in Iowa (10% ethanol) closed at $3.46 per gallon, up a penny from last week’s price and down $.08 from one year ago.

 

Heating Fuels

Propane prices fell $.09 compared to last week’s price with a statewide average of $1.88 per gallon.  Home heating oil fell $.05 from last week’s figures, ending with a statewide average of $3.47.  Natural Gas prices in Iowa were down $.19 from last week’s report, ending the week at $4.48 / MMbtu.
