Kelly Foss of the Downtown Farmer's Market was our special guest this morning just after the 8:30 news. There are 300 vendors involved this year...vendors will rotate so there will be 200 vendors each week downtown. There are 50 brand new vendors this year, 70 entertainers and lots of great goodies. This time of the year you'll find lots of asparagus, rhubarb, lettuce, spinach, basil, vegetable plants, gardening plants, flowers, eggs, meat products and much, much more! The market is open downtown each Saturday morning from 7AM-Noon.
Today we found out that Cracker Jacks came into being when Louis Rueckheim discovered how to keep the molasses-covered popcorn morsels from sticking together in 1896. Louis shared the treat with a salesman who exclaimed, "That's a crackerjack!" - which was slang for "That's a winner". And that's how The Cracker Jack brand name was born!
It's National Receptionist Day today and Dance Like A Chicken Day. Celebrate however you would like!
The Houston Astrodome (once called the 8th wonder of the world) was destined for the wrecking ball, but a committee of the Texas Historical Commission is recommending it be designated a "State Antiquities Landmark". Decision to come in July.
