Flowers For Mom For A Year! (Bonnie's blog 5/7/14)

Posted May 7th, 2014 @ 9:03am

Congratulations to Kristin Smith of Indianola on winning our Boesen's contest of flowers for mom for a year!  Tom Boesen joined us live in the studio just after the 7:30 news this morning to award the prize.  To order flowers for your mom, go to www.boesen.com or call 515-244-ROSE!  Perhaps a great Mother's Day gift this year would be to purchase flowers for a year for mom...a gift that gives all year long!

Our special guest after the 8:30 news this morning was Iowa author, Heath Lee.  Heath wrote the book, "Winnie Davis: Daughter of the Lost Cause".  The book is about the life of Jefferson Davis' daughter, Winnie.  It's a portrait of the South pre and post civil war.  There are battles, tragic deaths and love stories...something for everyone.  The book is available at Beaverdale Books as well as lots of other online outlets.

Your scrambled candy letters today are a three word candy:  erd nsvie olcircie
Unscramble the letters to make a candy name, enter your answer at www.whoradio.com by clicking on the "Candy Contest" on the right-hand side of the home page.  Be the first to get all five correct this week and win a $400.00 candy basket courtesy of the Sweets & Treats Convention in Chicago and Dan Mueller of Mueller Yurgae Associates.  Good luck!

The Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma Walk & Family Day is June 8th, 1PM at the DMACC Lake in Ankeny.  To register or get more information, go to www.scleroderma.org/steppingoutiowa.  There are also brochures at the front desk of WHO Radio, 2141 Grand, Des Moines.  The cost is only $25.00...kids under 12 are free.  My husband Gene and I will be walking and would love to have you walk with us.  Thank you!

Tomorrow on Van and Bonnie, Maestro Joseph Guinta will be joining us as well as Trisha Barton of Valley West Mall and others to tell us about "Filling the Mayflower".  Plus we'll have the letters for candy number 4.

Have a wonderful day!

Bonnie
