Van and Bonnie in the Morning

Higgins Boat Project (Bonnie's blog 7/30/14)

Posted July 30th, 2014 @ 9:46am

Our special guest after the 8:30 news this morning was Dennis Dop.  Dennis is a volunteer in the Higgins Boat Project to restore PT-305, a PT boat from World War II.  It is currently being restored at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.  They need about $250,000 to complete the restoration.  The PT-305 was assigned to the Mediterranean from 1943 thru 1945.  Dennis will have a booth at the Iowa State Fair in the Iowa Hall of Law.  You can make donations or buy a t-shirt for $20.00 with the proceeds going to the restoration.

Chris Connolly of Global Spectrum and the Iowa Events Center joined us in the studio just after the 7:30 news.  The Iowa Events Center hosted 566 events in this past year (a record) and presented Polk County with a check for $1.2 million dollars!  Just to give you an idea of how big this is....last year they presented Polk County a check for over $500,000.00 and that was a huge deal!  Congratulations to Global Spectrum on getting all the great talent to come to Des Moines and congratulations to all of you on getting out and enjoying all the great talent they  brought to the community!

Tomorrow on Van & Bonnie, we'll have more Knoxville Raceway tickets and Hollywood in the Heartland trivia with free Fridley Theater movie tickets to give away.

Remember back when Homemakers Furniture first opened....they had a whole house built inside the store and you could walk thru the various rooms to see how the furniture looked inside an actual house????  Whatever happened to the house?  Well, this past weekend, Van and I met the man that took that house apart and rebuilt it on his own lot!  We were impressed!

It's National Cheesecake Day and Father-In-Law Day....buy some cheesecake and take it to your father-in-law!

Enjoy this gorgeous weather!
