It was a surprise new baby...even to the folks at the Blank Park Zoo! They were checking on the new Bactrian Camels in the field at the entrance to the zoo and lo and behold, there was a newborn camel! The baby is not yet on display, but will be soon. There is also a new baby Kudu at the zoo. Ryan Bickel of the Blank Park Zoo joined us in the studio this morning just after the 8:30 news along with Burt, a gopher tortoise. Burt is around 15 to 20 years old and his favorite pastime is digging! The Zoo is also part of a promotion to plant special plants that attract butterflies. To learn more about what you can do, go to www.plantgrowfly.com. The hours of the Zoo are 9AM-5PM daily.
Just after the 7AM news, ISU Coach Rhodes and Tom Boesen joined us in the studio to promote the 5th Annual A Ride To Remember. It's a 60 mile motorcycle ride on June 22nd, to raise money on behalf of Alzheimer's Disease. Meet in the East parking lot of Jack Trice Stadium at 1PM. There's a BBQ after the ride. If you're from the Des Moines area, join the "ride to the ride" by meeting at 11AM for coffee and registration at Boesen The Florist, 3422 Beaver, and ride to Ames as a group. You can register for the ride and find more information at www.alz.org/greateriowa. For more information on the "ride to the ride", go to www.Boesen.com.
