Van and Bonnie in the Morning

Where Can You Find 50 Tons of Sand? (Bonnie's blog 7/31/14)

You'll find it at the Iowa State Fair in the southeast atrium of the Varied Industries Building in the Iowa Food & Family Project area.  Sandscapers will be sculpting a one-of-a-kind farm scape throughout the fair from 50 tons of sand.  Aaron Putze of the Iowa Food and Family Project stopped by this morning just after 7:30 to fill us in on the details.  There are lots of activities for the kids and adults can register to win $500 in Hy-Vee groceries, Casey's pizza for a year and someone will win $1,000.00!   This year's theme...What Farmers Grow Makes Iowa Go.  Van and I will be broadcasting from their space on the first day of the Iowa State Fair from 10AM-1PM.  We'll see you there!

Just after the 8:30 news, Mary Frances Evans from IRIS (Iowa Radio Reading Information Services) joined us in the studio.  If you know someone who is visually impaired, have them get in touch with IRIS and they can receive a special radio where people will read various publications all day long.  You can also get them on TV at channel 11.99.   IRIS has their 25th Anniversary Silver Gala coming up on Thursday, September 4th, from 5-9PM.  Tickets are $125.00.  The event will be held at the Meadows Events & Convention Center in Altoona.  Have dinner and dance to Bob Weast & His Swinging Big Band.  For tickets or more information, go to www.IowaRadioReading.org or call 515-243-6833.

Tomorrow on Van & Bonnie, more Knoxville Nationals tickets to give away and one last pair of movie tickets in conjunction with Hollywood in the Heartland going on at the State Historical Museum of Iowa.

Have a wonderful day!
