A text message sent tonight to Polk County residents raised some concerns-especially when the Polk County Sheriff's Office found out it came from their counterparts in Johnson County.
Polk County officials say the alert was false...there never was an alert.
What they say happened was that officials in Johnson County were attempting to send out a message with an update on a missing persons case when someone sent the erroneous message instead.
The Polk County Sheriff's office says the same company distributes the messages for communities around the state, and somehow the message was sent, but they're investigating to find out exactly how. They say that earlier in the day successful missing persons messages were sent for Johnson and Chickasaw counties.
