President Trump's Economic Advisor, Gary Cohn, Resigns

Those planned tariffs on imported aluminum and steel are starting to be felt way before their even put into effect.

PresidentTrump's chief economic advisor, Gary Cohn, is said to have resigned from his position as head of the National Economic Council.

In a statement Trump said, “Gary has been my chief economic adviser and did a superb job in driving our agenda, helping to deliver historic tax cuts and reforms and unleashing the American economy once again.”

White House officials are saying there was no single factor prompting Cohn’s resignation but it was no secret he had argued for a year against implementing any tariffs on aluminum or steel.

Iowa Congressman David Young has also released a statement opposing Trump's proposed tariffs.  It reads:

"Tariffs are taxes on Iowans and I oppose President Trump's move to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. This action will hurt American employers, workers, and consumers and blunt the positive economic effects of the new tax relief law. The last thing we need is a trade war and this action will likely lead to retaliation."

I am a free-market capitalist who would naturally be inclined to oppose these tariffs.  AND a lot of Iowans understand the role that free trade plays in growing our economy and would be inclined to oppose these tariffs.

BUT...if you live in a town in Iowa...or anywhere in the US...that lost a LOT of manufacturing jobs -  does this position REALLY hurt President Trump?  Is this a case where elitism runs up against populist sentiment?

I'll ask you on the Wednesday show.
