(DES MOINES, Iowa) A new report finds hospitals add more than $7 billion dollars to the Iowa economy.
The Iowa Hospital Association's annual report says community hospitals account for more than 132-thousand jobs, and are often the largest employers in cities and counties. Iowa's hospitals directly employ nearly 75-thousand people, and create more than 57-thousand jobs outside the hospital sector.
The I-H-A also finds that hospital employees spend nearly $2 billion on retail sales and contribute more than $114 million in state sales tax revenue.
The study finds hospitals provide $4.8 billion in salaries and benefits and generate another $2.3 billion through other jobs that depend on hospitals.
Complete information from the study, including economic impact data for each of Iowa’s hospitals, is available on the IHA website at www.ihaonline.org.
