Iowa gas prices up, and going higher

DES MOINES, Iowa - Gas prices are up and expected to go even higher.

The average price of a gallon of regular gas in Iowa is up 14-cents over last year.

AAA Iowa's Gail Weinholzer says the laws of supply and demand get most of the blame.

"The demand hasn't dropped off as much this winter as it usually does, beyond that we're exporting more gas than we ever have."

Weinholzer says the Gulf Coast oil industry is still working to recover from damage by Hurricane Harvey last year, adding more expense to the cost of producing gasoline.

There's more bad news.  The switch to summer blend gasoline this spring, a higher quality fuel, will add 15 to 25-cents a gallon to the price.
