Corbett asks judge to put him on Iowa ballot

(DES MOINES, Iowa)    Ron Corbett says he's hoping for a judge's decision within a few days, about overturning a ruling that keeps him off the GOP primary ballot for governor.  Lawyers for Corbett presented arguments today (Tuesday) in Polk County District Court.

"We certainly made our case today, both on a technical standpoint but also on the intent of the person signing the petition, and that's really what we think is our strongest argument, that people wanted to sign the petition so we'd have a chance to be on the ballot and give the voters of Iowa a choice," said Corbett.

A three-person panel ruled last month that Corbett failed to get enough signatures on his petitions. Corbett says he doesn't believe a small panel should've made the decision that kept him from competing against Governor Kim Reynolds in the GOP primary.

Corbett's lawyers want  58-signatures removed from his petitions, replaced.   If that happens, the former Cedar Rapids mayor would then qualify to be on the ballot.
