There's been a lot of excitement around Fleetwood Mac's upcoming world tour (it might be their last) which has received an unexpected boost from a viral video featuring the song, "Dreams."
But now some potentially crushing news: Rolling Stone has confirmed that Fleetwood Mac has fired Lindsey Buckingham. Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House will replace him.
No dates have been announced for the tour.
But this begs the question: how many original members of a band need to be part of the band before you will see them live?
I assume this depends on the price of the tickets. I think music fans will not be as finicky about orginal members if the band is appearing on the free stage at the Iowa State Fair or at a venue for a discounted price.
OR if there is one performer who you consider to be the face of the band - maybe you'll still see him or her live.
But I also assume that Fleetwood Mac will charge a fairly high price for tickets. So is it still the band without Lindsey? Is hearing and seeing Stevie Nicks enough?
Listeners know I am a huge KISS fan. I'll see the band as long as founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons tour. I won't see them if only one tours.
I didn't go see the recent Eagles concert in Des Moines. It got rave reviews, but the late Glenn Frey founded the band with Don Henley. Even with three long-time members, they just weren't the Eagles to me.
