MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota - WHO Radio News has received three Eric Sevareid Awards for news coverage in 2017. The Sevareid Awards are a six-state regional competition including Iowa, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin sponsored by the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association.
WHO Radio competes in the large market category against radio news departments that include Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and Omaha.
At the annual MBJA Sevareid Awards ceremony in Minneapolis on April 14, 2018 WHO Radio News placed First in the Documentary/ Special category for Large Market Radio for the live two-hour special: Stop the Violence.
WHO Radio News looked at the high number of murders and drive-by shootings, even rolling gun battles in the first few months of 2017 with gusts including Polk County Attorney John Sarcone, as well as gang members and other community leaders who share their insights into why the Des Moines area is seeing the large increase in violence, and what they believe can be done to stop it.
