Missouri man exposes Iowans to measles Friday the 13th

The morning of Friday the 13th could be unlucky for people who were inside the Hardees on Merle Hay Road.  And equally as unlucky for people who were inside the Panera Bread restaurant on Deleware Avenue in Ankeny the following Monday.

The Iowa Department of Public Health says a Missouri man with the measles was passing through Iowa and stopped at both locations; the Hardees on Friday, April 13th between 8:15 am and 11:45am and the Panera Bread on Delaware Avenue in Ankeny Monday, April 16 between noon and 4pm.

If you were in either of those locations during the times specified, you could have been exposed to the measles.  Should you not have had a measles vaccine or had the measles themselves, you should be on the lookout for measles symptoms.

Fever, cough, runny nose, red or pink eyes and/or a rash could be signs of the disease.

State health officials ask if those symptoms occur that you stay at home and contact your health care provider to make arrangements to be treated securely.
