Jet makes Alert II landing at Des Moines Airport

DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines Airport was put on Alert II status Tuesday afternoon when the pilot of an incoming American Airlines jet reported pressure problems.

Alert II is listed as a major aircraft in-flight emergency, according to ARFF, Airport Rescue Fire Fighting, and Des Moines Fire was called out for the landing.

Des Moines Airport Operations tells WHO Radio News American Airlines flight 2232 from Dallas Fort Worth landed safely at 2:45 p.m.  The jet has 140 seats, but there is no confirmation how many passengers were on the flight, Tuesday.

According to American Airlines the McDonell Douglas MD-83 had a malfunctioning flap, used to lower the stall speed and control the descent during landing.

American says a replacement part was ordered and the jet was repaired after landing in Des Moines.
