Military training center planned near Granger, Iowa

GRANGER, Iowa- Officials broke ground today on a new 45-thousand square foot, state-of-the-art Reserve Training Center near Granger.   The $19 million project is a partnership between the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps.

The center, just east of Highway 141, on 415 (NW 110th Ct), is scheduled to be complete sometime in 2019.   Marine Colonel Steve White tells WHO Radio News it will allow Marines to conduct weapons and computer training, as well as maintain vehicles.  He says Reserves will use the center once a month, and may also do additional training at nearby Camp Dodge, or fly to Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.

The center will host Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, and the Navy Operational Support Center.
