After record hot weekend, chance of storms today VIDEO

DES MOINES, Iowa - Memorial Day Monday was another record-breaking hot day, with the temperature reaching 98.  There were some pop up storms across the state, but in the Mason City and Clear Lake area, they were pounded.

60-70 mile an hour winds were reported, along with heavy rain in the area.

In the Des Moines metro area there were reports of trees and branches downed, and a small number of residents were without power for a time.

Storms possible today and tonight, WHO Channel 13 forecast:

It will be another warm day in Central Iowa but not quite as hot as the weekend. Temperatures will make it to the low 90s early this afternoon with mostly sunny skies. During the afternoon, more pop up showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across Central Iowa. In areas that see the thundershowers, temperatures will drop back into the 80s. A few of the storms may produce heavy rainfall, small hail and gusty winds.

A few showers and storms may still move through overnight through early Wednesday morning. Wednesday will be partly sunny with lower temperatures in the upper 80s. Sunshine returns through Thursday and Friday. We’ll see an increase in clouds again by Saturday with more storm chances during the weekend.
