They can't use Black Flag on black flies in Woodward

Residents of the city of Woodward are fighting an insect that's bothering them more than mosquitos.

They bite everything, but some farms nearby have lost chickens due to the "black flies" that are about the size of a gnat

Marisa Nicolaisen says she, her husband and son have been bitten by the bugs which are plentiful right now.  One family near Woodward says in two hours they lost 17 of their 21 chickens due to the flies.

An insect expert at Iowa State says the black flies swarm around the head and face of humans and animals.  Woodward's mayor says the experts told them there's nothing the city can do to kill the bugs.

Some people with farm animals are using fans to keep them away.
