Human remains found near Mason City, NOT Huistentruit

MASON CITY, Iowa- Authorities are trying to solve a mystery in rural Mason City, the identity of skeletal remains found earlier this month.

An anthropologist says the remains had been there for up to 15 years, and are believed to be from a white woman between 20-and-45 years of age.  The woman's height, estimated between five feet tall and five-foot seven inches.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner says the remains are not those of Mason City TV anchorwoman Jodi Huisentruit, who went missing in 1995.  That determination was the result of forensic dental studies.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office was notified May 20th, 2018 shortly after 1 p.m. that human remains were found in the 22000 block of 275th Street, east of Mason City.

The remains were taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny.  An autopsy was performed on May 23, 2018.  The results of the autopsy are not currently being released.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office and the DCI request if you have any information regarding a missing person that fits the description above that you contact the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office at  #641-421-3000.
