Des Moines man sentenced for stealing 24 guns

DES MOINES, Iowa- A Des Moines man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for three counts of stealing a firearm, and unlawful sale of a stolen firearm.

Twenty-three-year-old David Aikoriegie appeared before U S District Court Senior Judge Robert W. Pratt and admitted he stole 24-firearms from JLM Gun Shoppe in Urbandale and Rangemasters in Clive last year, November 15th, December 2nd, and December 14th.   

 He also admitted to selling one of those stolen firearms to another person.


This investigation was conducted by the Clive Police Department; United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF); Des Moines Police Department; and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement. 

The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions reinvigorated PSN in 2017 as part of the Department’s renewed focus on targeting violent criminals.
