DES MOINES, Iowa- Members of a sheet metal workers labor union went on strike today, (Monday) outside the new Des Moines Kum & Go building, under construction.
Russ Lewton, a spokesman with Ryan Companies tells WHO Radio News the strikers' actions this morning, kept other workers from getting on-site, so work came to a halt today. The spokesman says the metal workers have been negotiating a wage increase with a sub-contractor and the dispute is not with Ryan Companies or Kum & Go.
Tomorrow, an area for the strikers will be designated at another gate, if the strike continues, so other workers can get on site.
The new 160-thousand square foot headquarters in the 14-hundred block of Grand Avenue is expected to open in late October.
