Man who took photos of jogging high school girls in Pella questioned

PELLA, Iowa – Pella police say the man who was recorded on surveillance video taking pictures of high school girls jogging last Friday is being questioned.

Police Chief Robert Bokinsky tells WHO Channel 13 the man contacted police. His name is not being released but police confirm he is in his 30s, as described, and he is a Des Moines metro resident.

The man was spotted on surveillance video from West End Auto Body Shop in Pella.  The video shows him parking his car for a short time and snapping photos with a digital camera of high school-aged girls who were jogging.

The police department posted about the incident on its Facebook page Friday evening and the news media and other social media shared the information and surveillance photo.

No charges have been filed yet, but police say they are interviewing the man and working to verify details.

Police have shared information about this case with investigators in Poweshiek County who are investigating the disappearance of Mollie Tibbetts, a University of Iowa student who has been missing for more than a week after going out jogging in Brooklyn, Iowa, west of Iowa City near Interstate 80.
