Vice President Pence speaks in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa-  Drivers in Des Moines may have noticed some road blocks and slower traffic, before Noon today.   Vice President Mike Pence arrived around 11:30 a.m. and the motorcade prompted some temporary street closures from the airport to downtown.    Pence spokes at a rally at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines early this afternoon.

Mr. Pence spoke on a wide range of topics, including expressing his gratitude for law enforcement's ongoing efforts in the Mollie Tibbetts missing persons case, and said the federal government will do what it can to support those efforts.   

Pence also said he knows farmers are concerned about tariffs and trade talks.   He said talks are underway for new, multi-year farm bill in Washington.  He also says there's been progress on a new and improved North American Free Trade Agreement.

Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price issued a statement reacting to the Vice President's visit, accusing the GOP of an escalating trade war which hurts U.S. farmers.   Price also said the Trump Administration's tax plan benefits corporations at the expense of education and health care.
