IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man's been arrested after police say he accidentally shot himself. That's not a crime, but police say the man should never have had a gun in the first place.
Police say 25-year-old Dante Tyrone Beard's been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, and trafficking stolen weapons.
Investigators say Beard showed up at Mercy Hospital with a bullet wound to his leg and testicle, and bullet holes in his shorts and underwear, but no bullet hole in his pants. They say the gun was hidden under his pants when it went off.
Detectives recovered the gun, a stolen weapon, and got a search warrant for Beard's cell pone, where they say they found photos of Beard with guns, drugs, and money.
