DES MOINES, Iowa- Des Moines Police say a 14-year-old student brought a handgun and a knife onto school property at Des Moines East High School this (Monday) morning.
Police say staff and the School Resource Officer found out about it and stopped the student outside.
Police say the teen said he needed the gun for protection, because he'd been in an ongoing dispute with another student. Staff also found a knife in the student's backpack.
The teen's been taken into custody and facing weapons charges.
