Des Moines property owners owed millions after Franchise Fee suit

DES MOINES, Iowa-  The State Treasurer's Office says there's still more than seven million dollars in refunds waiting for Des Moines property owners, after a class-action lawsuit over Franchise Fees.

More than 3.6 (m) million dollars has been returned to more than 10-thousand residents, but officials say there are still many more who  may have refunds owed to them.

Refund amounts range from $10 to more than $300,000.

The list of property owners can be found at GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov.

The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt was given an 18-month period in a final effort to return the funds to the class members.

"This is the perfect time for the people to claim their portion of the settlement. We will have these properties for six more months and will then return the remaining funds to the city. We are encouraging everyone, not just those that could be a part of the settlement, to search the website and claim any money we are holding in their name,"  said State Treasurer, Mike Fitzgerald.
