The Best Cities In The US In Which You Can Find A Job

Glassdoor has just come out with their annual report of the 25 Best Cities for Jobs in 2018.

Surprised that a city in Iowa didn't make the list?  Take a look at the factors that the survey considered:

  • How easy it is to get a job (hiring opportunity)
  • How affordable it is to live there (cost of living)
  • How satisfied employees are working there (job satisfaction)

They definitely did not take into consideration the commute -  and that's what listeners tell me is THE MOST IMPORTANT factor in being happy with their job.  And -  as a native of St. Louis -  I can confirm that they didn't take CRIME into account.  The top ten cities:

  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • St. Louis, MO
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Cincinnati, OH
  • Hartford, CT
  • Boston, MA
  • Memphis, TN
  • Raleigh, NC
  • Cleveland, OH
  • Detroit, MI

Topping the list for yet another year is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which gets a Glassdoor City Score of 4.7, thanks to 91,849 job openings, a median home value of $131,300, and a median base salary of $46,500. If you’re interested in moving there, the hottest jobs in demand include Financial Advisor, Registered Nurse and Warehouse Associate.

Despite the availability of jobs everywhere, you won't land one instantly.  A new survey says that it takes, on average, five months for job seekers to find a gig.  In that search, they will, on average, write four different edited versions of a resume, submit seven applications, go on five job interviews and write four cover letters.
