DES MOINES, Iowa - As we get closer to the expected winter storm in Iowa on Sunday the forecast for expected snowfall is becoming more precise.

WINTER ADVISORY and STORM WARNING
A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for Central Iowa at midnight and a Winter Storm Warning begins just south of Des Moines and into southeast Iowa starting at 3 AM on Sunday.
Overnight, it will be cloudy with some isolated areas of rain and freezing drizzle. By 5 AM, snow should start falling along the I-35 corridor and through the Des Moines Metro.
The snow will be heaviest through southern Iowa between 4 AM and 11 AM. The snow in Des Moines will taper off through the noon hour. Eastern and Southeastern Iowa will continue to see heavy snow through mid-afternoon.
Snowfall totals will be highest in southeast Iowa with 5 to 9″ there. Through Central Iowa, Ames and the Des Moines Metro, we will be on the northern edge of the heaviest snow with 1 to 4″ expected.
It will be windy and cold through the day with highs hovering in the upper 20s to 30 degrees and strong north-northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph. Gusts will reach 35 mph. Skies will become partly cloudy through evening.
