A Des Moines man was arrested Sunday morning for stabbing his family's dog to death.
33 year old Martell Holloway Simpson is charged with Animal abuse after police found a dog with multiple stab wounds in a trash bag on the floor of a home in the 1800 block of East Bell.
Sgt. Paul Parizek says neighbors called 911 saying they heard a dog yelping in pain inside the home. They found an open door at the home and discovered the dog lying in a pool of blood. It did not survive the injuries.
Simpson was arrested a short time later with the animal's blood all over his clothing. He's in the Polk County Jail.
