Waukee school superintendent will retire

WAUKEE, Iowa - Waukee schools superintendent Cindi McDonald has announced her retirement, effective at the end of the current school year.

WHO Channel 13 reports the announcement comes less than a month after former Chief Operating Officer Eric Rose also resigned. He's facing four criminal charges as investigators say he altered employee time cards illegally and had employees running errands for him.

A state audit discovered $130-thousand dollars in questionable spending by the district under while Rose was there.

Days after that report was released, Rose was arrested.

Three former employees sued the school district. They say they were fired for blowing the whistle.

McDonald's resignation will be approved on Monday by the Waukee School Board.

Emailed statement from McDonald:

“It is with mixed emotions I announce my retirement from public education effective at the completion of the 2018-19 school year,” stated McDonald. “I am thankful for the opportunity to have served public education for the past 35 years, and it has been a true honor to work alongside outstanding educators in Waukee and across the state of Iowa. I am also excited to move on to the next chapter of life exploring new opportunities and adventures.”
