Iowa DOC: prisoner sets fire in cell, punches guards

FORT MADISON, Iowa - Prison officials say an inmate started a fire in his cell and barricaded himself inside at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Forth Madison, in far Southeastern Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Corrections report says when correctional officers tried to remove the inmate to put out the fire, he punched the officers. The correctional officers used pepper spray to subdue him.

The officers were treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
