DES MOINES, Iowa - Ever get a robo-cam traffic traffic ticket? A new bill that would ban traffic enforcement cameras is being considered at the Iowa State Capitol.
If the proposal passes into law, it will go into effect in July.
In the Des Moines area there are two automated traffic enforcement cameras:
- I-235 at 42nd Street in Des Moines, plus mobile speed robo-cams that are moved from location to location around the city
- The City of Windsor Heights has two automated traffic cameras on University Avenue
Davenport has several automated traffic cameras:
- Kimberly Rd. at Brady St., eastbound
- Harrison St. at 35th St., southbound
- Locust St. at Lincoln Ave., eastbound
- 1800 W. 3rd St. (3rd St. at Pine St.), eastbound
- 3300 N. Division St., southbound
- 2600 N. Brady St., northbound
- 1200 E. River Dr., westbound
In the Cedar Rapids area, automated traffic enforcement cameras are located at:
- 1st Avenue and 10th Street East EB/WB
- Edgewood Road and 42nd Street NE NB/SB
- 1st Avenue and L Street SW EB/WB
- Center Point Road and Collins Road Ramp (North) NB
- Williams Boulevard and 16th Avenue SW EB/WB
- I-380 Fixed Points (Northbound Diagonal Drive SW) NB 0
- I-380 Fixed Points (Northbound J Avenue NE) NB
- I-380 Fixed Points (Southbound J Avenue NE) SB
- I-380 Fixed Points (Southbound 1 Avenue SW)
The Iowa Department of Transportation ordered cities to remove the speed enforcement cameras from interstates inside city limits, but the cities challenged DOT and won.
The proposed new law has been approved in committee but still has to be approved by the Iowa State House, Senate, and Governor.
