WEST DES MOINES, Iowa-- The National Speech and Debate Association says it's National Speech and Debate Tournament will be held in the Des Moines area in the summer of 2021. The association says the week-long tournament is the largest academic competition in the world, bringing in nearly 10,000 students, coaches, teachers, and parents from almost every state in the country. The Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates the tournament will book more than 18,000 hotel rooms and bring more than $9 million in direct economic effect to the area.
