WEST DES MOINES, Iowa-- A West Des Moines Valley High administrator was taken to a hospital after being injured while trying to break up a fight between students. School district spokesperson Laine Mendenhall-Buck says Associate Principal David Perrigo tried to separate four students who were fighting when he was knocked to the floor. In a note posted on it's Facebook page, the district says Thursday morning's fight stemmed from an incident off school grounds earlier in the week. When administrators became aware of the tension brewing, they met with one of the students in an attempt to diffuse the situation. They say other students started a fight with the student shortly after the meeting. Mendenhall-Buck says they don't think the fighting students intended to hurt administrator Perrigo. She says Perrigo will likely be discharged from the hospital Thursday, but probably won't return to school this week. Mendenhall-Buck says three of the four students involved in the fight were sent home with their parents. The fourth left the building.
