DES MOINES, Iowa - A Flood Warning remains in effect for much of the Mississippi River, even though it could fall below major flood stage at Rock Island.
But if the river is falling, why the continued flood warning?
"We have a flood warning in effect for whenever the river is above its flood stage level. This has been an ongoing thing for, like, mid-to-late March," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Tom Philip.
He says rain in the forecast for Wednesday should not have much effect on the receding Mississippi River.
The Mississippi River to the northeast in Dubuque could fall below major flood stage over the next four to seven days.
Locations further south in Burlington and Keokuk could reach normal levels in the next ten days.
