Man shot in early morning robbery expected to survive

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A man is recovering from a gunshot wound after an attempted robbery early this morning.

"He said a group of young men demanded his cell phone, he refused and drove away...heard a gunshot and felt some pain," Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parizek said the man then drove to a Quick Trip gas station, where he parked and called for an ambulance.

Parizek says the man was shot in the back and taken to Mercy One Hospital, but is doing well and expected to survive.

No arrests have been made.
