Severe storms targeting Iowa overnight - STORM MAPS

DES MOINES, Iowa - Severe thunderstorms with locally heavy rain are expected overnight, especially heavy in an oval surrounded rughly Ames through Des Moines, to Ottumwa.

The storms are expected to develop in northwest Iowa after midnight and cross Central Iowa through the early morning hours, with hail, damaging winds, frequent thunder and lightning, and heavy rain.

There could be hail at the start of the storms, with damaging winds possible, especially as the storms move to the southeast.

Flash flooding is possible.

WHO Meteorologist Megan Salois from Channel 13 say as the storms leave the State of Iowa, after about 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, it'll turn hot and humid. Highs will be in the upper 80s and 90s, with Heat Index temperatures in the mid-90 to 100º degree range.

More storms are likely early on Wednesday morning.
