Another child is dead after being found in a hot car and a babysitter faces charges in the case.
Police in Hobbs, New Mexico say Tammy Brooks called 9-1-1 to say she accidentally left the two-year-old she was babysitting in a car for several hours. The toddler was dead when first responders arrived. It’s believed she was away from the vehicle for hours.
Brooks is now in jail and facing several charges including child abandonment resulting in death. It's the 42nd case of a child dying inside a hot car in the U.S. this year. Some automakers have said they'll install backseat reminder warnings on vehicles by 2025.
You may have heard me say on Van & Bonnie's show that Boo is ordering a new car. The dealer tells us that, among the features on the car, is an alarm meant to keep parents from forgetting a child in the back seat.
How it works: if you open the back door, then drive the car, then get OUT of the car without opening the back door again - the car will beep at you. Though Boo and I no longer have kids that live at home, we are totally in favor of using technology to prevent these deaths.
